Journalistic PortraitureThese images are mostly journalistic in style, even if they were not published in a newspaper or magazine. Another name for this type of photography is "Environmental Portraiture." Now, you can Google that if you like; I don't know if that's an expression I made up or if it is an accepted category. The point is that the subject's surroundings are a part of the portrait and characterize said subject. Comments Well, a curious googling of "journalistic portraiture" proves that I didn't make up the term after all. I wasn't even sure if journalistic was a word!

 ~kutuubocah I made up the phrase "Journalistic Portraiture" to try to describe what I see in these pictues. The are spontaneous, beautiful, and say something not only about the people in the photographs but, I think, something about a culture. In my so-called gallery there are a few shots of this genre -- if you will grant me this genre -- but my work doesn't come close to this. |
